The Performers |
Barry Luft has been singing and playing folk music in Alberta for more than forty years. He plays a variety of instruments, with his intricate 5 string banjo style being his trademark. He has six recordings to date including two solo CDs. In addition to performing and recording, Barry is involved with music as an educator, song leader and instrument instructor. Tim Rogers has been part of the Calgary folk scene for thirty-five years, performing at various venues in the city as well as across the country. Tim has always been a staunch supporter of Canadian music, having been involved in both performance and research of our musical traditions. He recently left employ at the University of Calgary to pursue a writing career. Grit Laskin plays the long-necked mandolin, concertina, whistle, and Northumbrian small pipes on the album. In addition to being a fine musician, he is also one of Canada's premier guitar makers and a published author. Grit is also a founder of Borealis Records and the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Patty Rogers has played bass with a number of bands in Calgary over a thirty year stretch. When she's not thumping away, keeping steady rhythm, she teaches Psychology at Mount Royal College. Roy Warhurst is a fixture in the country music scene. His fiddle can be heard with numerous bands (including the Sons of the Pioneers) and he has played the Grand Ole Opry and many venues in Europe. He has been a solid supporter of music of all sorts. |
